Admission Policy

1. Admission: Subject to the provisions of the Council of Higher Education Act and the South African Veterinary Council requirements for Animal Health Technicians, the following in consultation with the Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform shall determine admission to the institution. The principal aim of the Admissions Policy of the Tsolo Agriculture and Rural Development Institute, is to offer admission to students of the highest intellectual potential, irrespective of social, racial, religious and financial considerations. Furthermore TARDI aims to ensure fairness that each application is individually assessed, without partiality or bias, in accordance with the policy on Equity, and to ensure that, as far as possible, an applicant’s chance of admission to TARDI depends solely on merit. Once students are admitted, we endeavour to deliver a unique TARDI experience by giving academic, personal and, where appropriate and possible, financial support necessary for successful completion of the three year course at TARDI. Admission means approval to report for registration at the Institute as a student, irrespective of whether or not the prospective student has previously been registered as a student at the Institute.

1.1.1. Application for admission can only be made through the online application website of the Institute. Applicants must create a login for this website. All communication between the applicant and the Institute, will be effected through this website, including information about the outcome of the application. Therefore, applicants must ensure that they do not lose the login data for the website.

1.1.2. SApplicants must fill in the forms provided on the online application website and upload the documents required there.

1.1.3. Applicants must provide an affidavit as to their criminal record status. The respective affidavit form (no criminal records / criminal records) must be downloaded from the online application website. It must be filled in and signed and stamped by a commissioner of oaths. A false statement as to the criminal record status will lead to expulsion from the Institute.

1.1.4. The application fee of R120 must be paid and a receipt must be uploaded on the application website of the Institute.

1.1.5. Closing date for applications is 30 November.

1.1.6. Late applications will be accepted against a late application fee of R200 until 31 December of each year.

1.1.7. Management reserves the right to entertain “walk in” applications from applicants who performed exceedingly well and/or have proof of funding.

1.2. Rules of Admission: The following criteria will be applied when deciding about admission:

1.2.1. Minimum Requirements Applications that do not meet the following minimum requirements will not be considered:

1.2.1.1. The applicant must have a National Senior Certificate (with Diploma pass option).

1.2.1.2. The applicant must have achieved a minimum of 24 points in total. The points equal the level for each subject on the certificate (e.g. English level 4 = 4 points), (Excluding Life Orientation)

1.2.1.3. The applicant must not have more than one subject at level 1.

1.2.1.4. The applicant must have a pass in English at level 3 or higher.

1.2.1.5. The applicant must have a pass in Mathematics at level 3 or higher.

1.2.1.6. The applicant must have a pass in Life Sciences or Physical Sciences at level 3 or higher.

1.2. Ranking and Rating: All applications that meet the minimum requirements defined above under 1.2.1 will be ranked according to the following criteria.
